The Decatur Morning Review [Decatur IL] October 18, 1884
Joliet, Ill., Oct. 17-The terrible storm of thunder, lightning and rain that 
began early yesterday morning was attended with the loss of two lives here. 
The saddest case was that of Mrs. William Grace, the wife of an old and 
respected citizen, who was struck by lightning as she was passing under a tree 
in the rear of her residence on South Joliet street about seven o'clock. At 
the same time a man, whose name is yet unknown, was struck and fell dead on 
the sidewalk. The place where he met his death was remote from trees or 
conductors of any kind.
