House, a leading chancery lawyer, swore out a warrant to-day for the arrest of Attorney David Gilmore, alleging that Gilmore had threatened to shoot him and had been following him around for that purpose for two weeks, trying to entrap him. Lawyer Gilmore, it is alleged, accuses Lawyer House of undue intimacy with his (Gilmore's) wife. Mrs. Gilmore is the former wife of ex-County Treasurer Andrew J. Fries. Some years after the death of Mr. Fries she married Lawyer Gilmore, a man without means. Mrs. Fries owns considerable property. Gilmore, it is alleged, tried to get control of the property and trouble arose between him and his wife over it. It is said that he treated his wife abusively, causing a separation, she dreading to file a bill for divorce for fear of personal harm. She placed her legal affairs in the hands of Attorney House, who has been managing them for some time. Mr. House alleges that Gilmore sent a note to him on legal matters last Saturday requireing the presence of House at Mrs. Gilmore's home. Mr. House's law student, C. L. Pike, went and found Mr. Gilmore awaiting Mr. House in the barn with a shotgun. Mr. House had Gilmore arrested this morning upon conclusive evidence that he intended to kill him. When the sheriff arrested him he found a five chamber revolver on him. He was bound over in $1,000, but he could find no one to go on his bond and on account of his violent temper he was put in a cell in the county jail. All the Joliet lawyers have a dislike for Gilmore. Mr. House and Mrs. Gilmore possess good reputations.
