Prefers Grave to Chicago

Girl, Told She Must Return to City, Attempts to End Her Life

Rather than return to Chicago to live, Miss Elizabeth Baird, aged 16, a niece 
of E. J. Murphy, warden of the Joliet penitentiary, attempted to commit 
suicide by taking acid. She has a chance to recover. The girl has been in 
Sparta on a visit and became despondent when told she must return to Chicago, 
saying she wished to stay where she could be happy.
