Eddy, for many years superintendent of repairs on the Illinois- Michigan Canal, died at his home in Lockport, Ill., last Tuesday evening from the effects of an accident received on the previous Wednesday while superintending dredging repairs near Seneca on the line of the canal. A falling dump box struck Mr. Eddy, crushing his left leg below the knee. He was removed to his home at Lockport, where the limb was amputated by Drs. C. H. Bacon and O. W. Moon last Sunday, but the shock to his system was so great that he died Tuesday evening. Mr. Eddy was born in Chenango County, New York, in 1829, emigrating with his parents about 1840 to Lockport, Ill., where he has since resided. He served during the war as senior First Lieutenant of Cogswell's Independent Battery, Illinois Light Artillery. He was mustered out in the latter part of 1864, and has since been connected with the Illinois Michigan canal as Superintendent of dredging and pile driving machinery. Mr. Eddy was prominent in Masonic and Grand Army circles. He leaves a wife and two married daughters. The funeral will be held at the family residence in Lockport at 3 p. m. to-day.
