Mysterious circumstances shroud Erhard's death, and the coroner's jury added to the confusion, by returning a verdict of accidental death. Lawrence Erhard was released from the asylum in August under parole to his parents. The other day he was in an ugly mood and could not be controlled. Word was sent to the sheriff's office to come and get him. One night at midnight Joseph Erhard was left sleeping behind a stove in the sitting room by other members of the family, who had gone into the kitchen. A few moments later a pistol shot was heard and Erhard was found shot. The revolver, lying near, was owned by the dead man, but he was never known to carry it. At the inquest no mention was made of Lawrence Erhard, who was then in the house under guard. Relatives will not discuss the affair.
