Man Injured Fatally as Joliet Bridge Opens

Joliet, Ill., Jan 9 - (AP) - An elderly Joliet resident is dead of injuries 
suffered when he fell as the Ruby street bridge across the Illinois waterway 
opened while he was crossing.

The victim was Alex Ferbezar, 80. Police said Ferbezar was crossing the span 
as it began to open, falling and suffering a skull fracture.

Harvey Green, the bridgetender, was quoted by police as saying he had lowered 
the gates and started the warning flashers, but that he did not see Ferbezar 
on the bridge.
