Visitation: 9 am Saturday until the 10 am celebration of the funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 428 S. Indiana Avenue, Kankakee, where she was a member. Father John Peeters will officiate. Internment: Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Aroma Township. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Peotone Library, or to the American Cancer Society. Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements. She was owner of Laura's Ceramic Workshop in Peotone. Born February 16, 1926, in Hammond, Indiana. Daughter of Sidmond and Mina Dupree McHie. Spent her youth in Greenville, Mississippi. Husband, Leo L. Lewis Sr., whom she married November 27, 1944, in Crown Point, Indiana, died May 31, 1998. 1944 graduate of Kankakee High School. Member of the Peotone American Legion Auxiliary; a past 4-H leader; and past PTA president. She enjoyed ceramics, oil painting, needlework, crafts and reading. Surviving: 1 son and daughter-in-law, Leo Jr. and Karen Lewis of Clifton; 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Linda and Richard Faber of Kankakee, Lori Lewis and her life partner, Jeanine Becker of Peotone; 8 grandchildren, Matthew Lewis, Julie Jackson, Michael Lamb, Sue Lamb, Jodie Shields, Sheree Birkenmeyer, Doug Faber and Desiree McCoy; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and four brothers-in-law, Mina Coy of Champaign, Carroll and David Armstrong of Mt. Dora, Florida, Audrey and Bill Stewart of Tulsa, Oklahoma, William Roundy of Lillian, Alabama, Howard "Bud" Lewis; 1 brother and two sisters-in-law, Richard "Dick" and Aline McHie of Kankakee, Adeline Scott; Special friend, Everett "Red" Andrews of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Carl Overland of Kankakee.
