Herbert W. Matthies, 92, of Peotone, died Monday, July 20, 2009.
Born June 5, 1917, in Beecher;
Parents: William G. and Caroline (Grages) Matthies;
Married Hilda Wolkow January 20, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church in Beecher. 

Farmed in Beecher as a young man;
Owned and operated Matthies Trucking and Matthies Consignment Auction. 
Attended and graduated from Art Feller College of Auctioneers. 
Worked at the Ford Motor Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights, retiring in 1977. 
He and Hilda moved to Three Lakes, Wisconsin, where they owned and managed the 
Triangle Motel for 15 years. 
Then moved back to Peotone, Illinois.
Past president of the Peotone Sportsman's Club;
Member and former trustee of the Immanuel United Church of Christ of Peotone; 
Former member of the Bradley Moose Lodge;
Former member of the Northern Lights Snowmobile Club, Three Lakes Unlimited of 
Three Lakes, Wisconsin;
Former member of Ambassador Club of Ford Motor Company. 
Enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes, bowling, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. 

Survived by his wife of 69 years, Hilda (Wolkow) Matthies of Peotone;
2 children, Pat Harms Misner (Gerald) of Bourbonnais'
William H. (Bonnie) Matthies of Peotone; 
3 grandchildren, Brent (Kris) Harms of Manteno;
Nathan Matthies and Meghan Matthies, both of Peotone. 

Preceded in death by his parents; and 3 sisters, Blondie Bory, Alice Schroeder 
and Esther Huberts. 

Visitation 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and funeral services Friday at 11 a.m. at 
the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, Peotone. Interment will be in Peotone 
Cemetery.
