Obit of Alice Newton Notation in ink at the top of the clipping reads, "Dec 3 died Buried the 5th, 1952. Newspaper unknown but probably Johnston City or Marion Alice Newton Johnston City Died Last Night Mrs. Alice Newton, 85, died last night at 11 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Grant, on West Eighth Street in Johnston City. Mrs. Newton, who for many years lived at 304 West Eighth Street, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage about 10 days ago and had been moved to the home of her daughter. Born east of Herrin, she had been a resident of Williamson County all her life. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her husband James; a son Charles of St. Louis; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Marcie Watson, Sikeston N. Dak. The body is lying in state at the Murman-Wilson funeral home in Johnston City. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm tomorrow at the First Baptist Church in Johnston City, of which she was a member. Rev. Jack DeVore- pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the old Rose Hill cemetery at Marion.
