Obituary of Randolph Dale, Williamson County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Barbara Little FALL OF COAL KILLS MINER Murphysboro Independent - March 3, 1912. Randolph Dale died of injuries received Friday afternoon while he was working in a coal mine near Herrin. He will be buried Tuesday morning, the funeral party coming to Murphysboro on Bryan's train of the Illinois Central, and the funeral being from the train. Mr. Dale was employed as a timberman and was removing a prop when a portion of the roof, in No 7 mine of the Big Muddy Coal and Iron Company, fell from behind him, struck him crushing his back and breast so that death resulted. Mr. Dale was for years a resident of Murphysboro and employed in the mines at this city. He removed to Herrin seven or eight years ago. He was the father of Randolph Dale, Jr. of this city. Randolph Dale, the son of John Dale and Anne Evans, was born May 12, 1854 in Baglan Lower, Glamorgan, Wales and died March 3, 1912, aged 57 years, 9 months and 21 days. The funeral will be at his residence on Jefferson street in Herrin, Tuesday 8:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Wallace. The remains will be shipped on Bryan's train to Murphysboro for interment at Tower Grove cemetery. Services will be at First Lutheran church in Murphysboro. Mr. Dale leaves two children, Randolph Dale of Murphysboro, and Mrs. Sarah Garavaglia of Herrin, one sister, Mrs. Thomas Little, of Murphysboro, and two brothers, John and Harry Dale, of Herrin.
