Obit of John H. Kemper Dated in ink as Sept 14, 1946. Newspaper unknown. Rites Today for Former Mayor of Johnston City. Funeral rites were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Methodist Church in Johnston City for John H. Kemper, 71, an former mayor and alderman of Johnston city, who died at 2:30 o'clock last Saturday afternoon at his home, 601 West Eighth street, in Johnston City, following a lingering illness. His condition had been critical since last Monday. Rev. Homer Young conducted the rites. Inerment was in the Johnston City cemetery. Kemper had been a resident of Johnston City thirty-three years, during which time he served two terms as the city's mayor, several terms as alderman member of the board of education, Trades Council and city library in Johnston City. He was a retired miner and a member of the UMWA. He was also a member of the Methodist Church. Kemper is survived by a son, Fred Kemper, Alexandria, Va.; three daughter, Mrs. Ruth Fleming, Johnston City; Mrs. Albert G. Brown, Portland Ire., and Mrs. Harold Simpson, Chicago; a brother, William Kemper, Johnston City; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Knickles, St. Charles, Ky., and Mrs. Ben Woodruff, Terre Haute, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
