Obit of Loy Gambill Dated in by hand in ink as Mar 9, 1947. Newspaper is Daily American, West Frankfort IL. Loy Gambill Is Killed by Mine Conveyor Loy Gambill, 44, welder at Old Ben Mine No. 9 was killed about 8 o'clock Sunday morning when he was dragged into a tipple conveyor on which he was welding. Death was instantaneous. Gambill, a former resident of this city, had lived in Johnston City since 1939. He resided at 1406 East Jefferson Street in Johnston City. He had been an employee of the Old Ben Corporation the past three years. Officials at the mind said Gambill was working with another welder at the time of the accident. Gambill was welding flights when for some cause officials said a switch was turned on, dragging him into the sprockets of the conveyor. His body was badly mangled. Surviving are his wife, a sister, Mrs. John Hughes of West Frankfort, and his parents Mrs. and Mrs. James A. Gambill, also of West Frankfort. The body is lying in state at the Union funeral home here. The casket will not be opened. Funeral services will be held from the First Baptist church in Johnston City Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Homer Young, pastor of the Methodist church in Johnston City, will officiate, assisted by Rev. T.H. King, pastor of the First Baptist church of West Frankfort. Burial will be in the Johnston City cemetery.
