The water is of excellent quality, easily obtained by digging but a few springs. The surface of the county is generally level and well-adapted to cultivation. Coal abounds. The staple of this county is tobacco. The health of this county is generally good. The most prevalent and fatal disease is pneumonia. It is rapidly increasing in population. There is manifest improvement within the last few years in education, morrals and agriculture. Our present common school system does not work well; a change in the present school laws" (last line is missing...)
