James Archer, dealer in lumber, grain and coal, established business July 12th,
1869; was born in Scotland in 1828; came to America in 1842, and located in
Rockford, Ill.; from there he removed to Fayette county, Iowa; thence to
Waverly, Iowa, where he was engaged in the lumber business three years. In 1869,
he removed to Cherokee, and engaged in business as above. He has been a member
of the town council, and has served several terms on the school board.
