The deceased was born in Springfield, Mass., in 1801, and was nearly 91 years of age. He was one of the earliest pioneers of this section, coming to the city in 1836. He settled on a farm in Harrison shortly afterward and resided there until his son removed to Rockford, when he took up his residence with him. The deceased's first wife died in 1840. He married his second wife in 1841. Mr. Burbank during his long residence became widely acquainted throughout the county, and the old gentleman possessed a large circle of friends. He was a quiet, industrious man, and rarely took part in the busier affairs of his fellow men. Besides his sons, Thomas and Joel, the two well-known officials, he leaves a widow and two other sons, John and Gordis, and a daughter, Mrs. Amanada Ellis. Mrs. Burbank, who is 82 years of age, is very feeble, and has for some time been suffering with the grip, being confined to the bed. The funeral will be held tomorrow, from the sheriff's residence, at 9 o'clock. Short services will be conducted at Harrison in the afternoon, at 1 o'clock, Rev. J.M. Conley of Rockton officiating. Additional Comments: Eli Burbank actually came to Winnebago County in the summer of 1835, found suitable land for a farm, and built a cabin. He then went back to Cattaraugus Co., New York, and returned with his family in the spring of 1836.
