ANN BURBANK DEAD Mother of Joel and Thomas Burbank Passes Away After a long struggle against encroachments of age and illness, Mrs Ann Burbank, one of the earliest settlers of this county, passed away at the home of her son, Joel Burbank, 320 Forest Avenue, Sunday morning at 3:45 o'clock. Mrs. Burbank's maiden name was Ann Marie Smith. She was born in Dover, Kent County, Delaware. Dec. 27, 1809, being 87 years of age at the time of her death. Her first husband was Joel Woodle, two children being born to them, now Mrs. Elizabeth Burbank and Mr. Joe Woodle of Iowa. On July 18, 1841, Mrs. Woodle was married to Eli Burbank, the marriage taking place in Wisconsin. Mr. Burbank passed away on April 18, 1891, and had he lived until July of that year he would have celebrated, with his wife, his golden wedding anniversary. By the second marriage there are three children living, Joel H. Burbank, the well- known ex-sheriff of Winnebago County; Thomas Burbank, city fireman at Station No. 1, and Mrs. Amanda Ellis, wife of D. H. Ellis, all of whom reside in Rockford. Mrs. Burbank, before her second marriage, moved to Green County, Wisconsin, in 1836, later coming to Illinois. When she arrived in this state, the county was very wild, and there was no such things as railroads. She traveled over the northern part of the state overland, and finally settled with her husband in Harrison. There the couple spent most of their lives, Mrs. Burbank having resided on the same farm 49 years. On the death of her husband, Mrs. Burbank left the old homestead to reside in Rockford, where her sons and daughter are located. Mrs. Burbank was a Baptist, but had not been able to attend church of late years. She was beloved by all who knew her, and in Harrison, where she resided so many years, she numbered many friends among young and old. The children now living in Iowa were not able to be present, but Mrs. Swan of Milton, Wis., and Mrs. Dunwoodie of Janesville, granddaughters, were here to attend the funeral. The services were held from the house on Forest Avenue this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Harris of the Beloit Congegational church officiating. A quartet consisting of Miss Lucy Graham, Mr. Floyd Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. DeLos Barningham of Harrison sang appropriate music. Miss Floy Shepardson acting as organist. The interment took place at the West Side Cemetery, a large cortege following the remains to the grave.
