A well-known Rockford musician, in recent years Mr. Eastman had been a piano tuner. "Rites Monday for Musician" (Feb. 7, 1953) "Verner E. Eastman Dies at St. Anthony's" - Funeral services for Verner E. Eastman, 76, 224 Walty (sic) Ave., who died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Anthony's hospital, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Donald T. Olson, associate pastor of Court Street Methodist church, will officiate. Masonic rites will also be conducted. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Eastman, a life member of the Rockford Musical association, was one of Rockford's leading musicians when he played with the Midway and Palace theater orchestras many years ago. Mr. Eastman played the bass viol with the Rockford Civic symphony orchestra and with the Shrine-anigans, as well as with the two theater orchestras during his days as an active musician. In recent years, he had become known as one of Rockford's most expert piano tuners, and was hired for this specialty by both the Mendelssohn club and Rockford college, as well as by a number of private musicians in Rockford. Mr. Eastman came to Rockford 42 years ago as a piano tuner for the Haddorff Piano company. In recent years he had been a piano tuner with the Jackson Music store. Mr. Eastman was born Feb. 9, 1876, in Oregon, Ill., the son of Chester and Ellen Eastman. He married the former Adelaide Phelps in Sterling. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Oregon and Tebala Shrine of Rockford. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Anderson, Loves Park, and Mrs. Marion McLaughlin, Rockford; a son, Eugene V. Eastman, Springfield, Ill.; and a sister, Mrs. Harriett (sic) Rippberger, Evanston.
