This photo was identified on the back as being the school of my great-grandfather,
Thomas 
John Buchanan, who was born in Poplar Grove, Il. in 1856 and raised in Rockford from
the age 
of four. Research on the school has told me that this school was erected in 1857 at
the NE 
corner of Park and N. Church streets. After 1884 it was known as Lincoln School
(grade 
school), then Franklin School. It was razed in 1892.
