All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/in/infiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Elizabeth Tilton eftilton@concentric.net October 19, 2007, 6:21 pm Fort Wayne Weekly Sentinel, 23 August 1905 Josiah Tilton Dies from Infirmities of Age Josiah Tilton, one of the pioneer railroad men of Fort Wayne, and who for more than half a century has been a resident of this city, died Tuesday night, August 16, at his home on Spring Street from the infirmities of age. Mr. Tilton was born at Monmouth, ME, in 1826, and while yet a young man came west to seek his fortune. He took a railroad position and after a few years became an engineer, serving the Wabash and Pennsylvania railroads in that capacity from 1854 to 1885, when he retired to engage in the dairy business. The deceased in laying the first steel rails used on the Pennsylvania. Surviving him are his wife and five grandchildren. His two children are dead. Mr. Tilton was a member of the Methodist Church and of Lodge No. 14, I.O.O.F.
