The Franklin Democrat, Friday, April 8, 1898, Volume XXXVIII, Number 39, page 1, column 1
A special from Columbus Saturday says: Austin F. Sparks, of Jeffersonville, rear
brakeman of the ill-fated crew 
that went down in the fated flood wreck here Tuesday night of last week, died in the
City Hospital.  He, with 
Conductor Franklin, each with a leg broken, laid on the little mound or island all
the fatal night.
