EAGLE TOWNSHIP is located in the southeast corner of the county. It contains 26 square miles. The surface is for the most part level, though there are some broken lands along Big Eagle Creek. The upland is generally very productive; but, like most other townships surrounding it, there is much improvement needed in the way of clearing, fencing and tiling to bring it to a high state of desirableness for the seeker of first-class farms. The bottom lands, though not extensive, are very rich, and yield abundant crops. The township is watered by Big Eagle Creek and its tributaries. This creek runs from north to south through the eastern part of the township. Zionsville, a town of extensive enterprise, is situated on the "Big Eagle," and the I., C. & L. R. R.; Royalton, Hamilton, and Eagle Village are other small towns, of no great importance except as post offices. The public improvements of the township may be classed with others no better favored. The roads are very well located, and are good or bad according to the seasons. The bridges are very good. The school houses are quite good, and exhibit a commendable public spirit of enterprise; they are nine in number, valued at $8000. S. M. WHITE is the present Township Trustee. The vote of the township is 540; Republican majority, 50. There are many good farms and enterprising farmers in Eagle township; indeed, it may be said that, for the number of square miles contained in it, the township is "well up," with enterprising, high-spirited men, of all trades and professions.
