Odell (1916) GEN. ROBERT H. MILROY. Gen. Robert H. Milroy was born on June 11, 1816, in Washington county, Indiana, and with his father, Gen. Samuel Milroy, came to Carroll county, Indiana, in 1826. He attended the Norwich Military Academy in Vermont, graduating from that institution in 1843. He attended the law school at Bloomington University, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Law. He entered the service in the Mexican War, as captain of Company C, a volunteer company from Carroll county, in 1846. He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in 1850. He located in 1854 in Rensselaer, Indiana. He was the colonel of the Ninth Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. He was commissioned brigadier-general, February 6, 1862, and a major general, in November, 1862. He served during the war. In 1872 he went to Washington territory and held by appointment the office of superintendent of Indian affairs. He died in the state of Washington, March 29, 1890.
