Claim of Widow for Pension under the Provisions of Sections 4736 to 4740 inclusive Revised Statutes, and the Act of March 9, 1878. State of Indiana County of Carroll/S.S. On this 24th day of May, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight, (24 May 1878) personally appeared before me John *** Circuit Court, the same being a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Alice Peterson, aged 81 years, a resident of Carroll County in the State of Indiana, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of John Peterson, deceased, who was the identical John Peterson who served under the name of John Peterson as a private in the company commanded by Captain Wiley in the regiment of _____, commanded by Col. Delong in the War of 1812; that her said husband volunteered at Lancaster on or about the 1st day of September, 1813 for the term of 6 months, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of 6 months, and whose services terminated, by reason of honorable discharge at Upper Sandusky on the 1st of March 1814. She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz: "He was a farmer, born in New Jersey; was about 5 feet 8 inches high; light hair, light gray eyes, light complexion. " She further states that she was married to the said John Peterson in Walnut township, in the county of Fairfield and in the State of Ohio on the 13th day of April A.D. 1819 by one Rev. John Hight, who was a Minister of the Gospel and that her name before her said marriage was Alice McNamee, and that she has not remarried since the death of the said soldier; and she further states that her said husband never was married before or after his marriage to applicant. And that her said husband John Peterson died at Monroe twp. , Carroll Co., in the State of Indiana on the 18th day of May 1856; and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz: "First in Fairfield Co., Ohio 18 years, then in Licking Co. Ohio for 4 years, then in Seneca County Ohio for 9 years, then removed to Carroll County Indiana in fall of 1854. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension to which she may be entitled under the provisions of Sections 4736 to 4740 inclusive Revised Statutes, and the Act of march 9, 1878, and hereby constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation Sims, Stewart & Sims of Delphi, Indiana, her true and lawful attorneys, to prosecute her claim and she further declares that she has heretofore made application for Land warrants and obtained warrant for 80 acres of land, and she thinks that the said soldier obtained in his lifetime warrant for 80 acres of land, and that her residence is in Madison township, County of Carroll, State of Indiana, and that her post-office address is Delphi, Indiana. Snyder, age 63 years, residing at Monroe township in Carroll Co., Indiana, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, say that they have known the said Alice Peterson for 65 years and for 45 years, respectively; that they were present and saw her make her mark to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and they further say that they are able to identify her as the person who was the wife of the identical John Peterson, who rendered the service alleged in the above application in the company of Captain Wiley....
