She was married to Daniel OAKS February 16, 1843. To this union was born 12 children - 5 boys and 7 girls. Two of the girls, the oldest of the family, Catherine KUNS and Berthenia EARLY, died in Missouri, aged 45 and 56 years, respectively. Three of the boys passed to the Great Beyond in their early years. The remaining children are Lewis OAKS and Mary METZGER of Michigan, Elizabeth SINK, Anna COMMER, Nancy GARHART of N. D., Phoebe REESE of Missouri and Jacob of this place. Other descendants are 39 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. After marriage the young couple settled on the Ohio farm and remained until teh spring of 1862 when they emigrated to Cerro Gordo, Ill. Nineteen years later, in spring of 1881, they removed to Missouri, remaining there 11 years. After the death of her husband, 1892, she removed to Piatt county, Illinois, remaining there until 1907 when Jacob brought her here that she might be better cared for. Words cannot describe what these years have means to the Oaks family, neither the afflicted mother, nor the loving hands that have ministered to her wants, but she bore it patiently and died as she had lived, a Christian. Much credit is due her daughter, Phoebe, for leaving her Missouri home and caring for her mother so long and so faithfully. Grandmother united with the Church of the Brethren in the year 1846 and stood as a living monument of the primitive faith and a pious example of suffering affliction for her Master's sake for 66 years. Her closing hours were peaceful and happy as she received the last sad and solemn rites of the church of her choice. See James 5:13-17. appropriate funeral services were held at the church of the Brethren in Flora last Monday morning conducted by her pastor, Elder A. G. CROSSWHITE, assisted by Elder John FLORA of the Old Order German Baptist Church.
