Cause of death was old age, Mr. SHANKS being 83. Deceased was a member of the paint Creek Baptist church and was widely known over Carroll county. He had been a resident of this county for many years, coming here in pioneer days, and was identified with much of the early history of this section of the county. He reared a large family and was always an energetic hard working man, honest and upright in all his business dealings. His wife passed away a number of years ago. He is survived by five sons and four daughters as follows: L. P. and James [SHANKS] of Washington township; John U. [SHANKS] of Carrollton; David [SHANKS] of Camden; Wm. [SHANKS] of Wisconsin; Mrs. Jasper FOUTS, Mrs. Wm. McCLOSKEY, Mrs. Chas. SNIDER and Mrs. John HAMMEL, all of Cass County, and one brother, residing in the west, besides a large number of grandchildren, adn great grandchildren, and other relatives. Additional Comments: Henry was son of John SHANKS and Elizabeth GERARD. His wife was Mary Jane BLUE, dau of Uriah BLUE and Fanny SCOTT; she died 1902.
