Mr. James Gordon an old pioneer of the county died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home in Georgetown having Resided in that vicinity for more than 50 Years. The decesed was born March 20, 1809 in Butler county this state * therefore being more than 80 years of age. He moved to Georgetown this county in 1833 and commenced the practice of medicine, but soon abandoned that profession to engage in the merchandisary. At the opening of the canal he was one of the countians who helped to push work through he was engaged in that business for nore than fifty years. Then he retired from a more active pursuit of life. The funeral will be held at the Pisgah church in Jefferson township at 2:30 o' clock Sunday afternoon REV E. S. Scott of this city officiating. Additional Comments: * this is Statement is confusing because the tombstone reads Butler Co Ohio. which seems to be the correct location according to my research. The copy was on microfilm and very hard to read due to a line that was present through the column. The tombstone spells the last name Gorden but Gordon is also used in this obit.
