CHARLESTOWN.
The county seat of Clark county, twelve miles from Jeffersonville, and two and a
half from the Ohio river. It was laid out in 1808. It has a fine courthouse, a
seminary, five churches, good schools, &c., &c. The surrounding country is
rolling and rich. It now has a population of about 1,200.
