CHAPTER XVII. BRAZIL—TOWN AND CITY. The question of the incorporation of the town of Brazil was sub- mitted to the qualified citizens of the proposed site on the first day of October, 1866. The advertisement of the election had been published in the Brazil Independent and Home Weekly, and ten copies of the notice had also been posted. Joseph T. Liston was at that time president of board of commissioners, under whose direction the election and the proceedings of incorporation took place. On the morning designated, at nine o’clock, the legal voters began assembling at. “the frame church on lot No. 6, Brackney’s addition,” to the town of Brazil. Evelyn Montgomery was clerk of election.
