                Enrollment and Exemptions.
    In the month of August, 1862, a complete enrollment was made of
the number of men in the respective townships of the county subject to
military duty, as, also, of the number who had up to that time volunteered
in the service of their country. This was done under the supervision of
Hezekiab Wheeler, enrolling commissioner for the county, by the help of
a deputy in each of the townships: Nathaniel Allen, Posey; Evelyn Mont-
gomery, Dick Johnson; Preston Morgan, Van Buren; Christian Rummel,
Jackson; Hail C. Conaway, Perry; A. J. Baher, Lewis; Harney Brothers,
Harrison; J. L. Harris, Washington; James M. Nees, Cass; Joseph Did-
