All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/in/infiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Donnie Pickard dmallie@aol.com February 26, 2011, 8:42 pm Tipton Tribune Tipton Tribune-Wednesday-September 15, 1915 Killed by Explosion--Sherman Rude, of near Pickard killed while blasting stumps Sherman Rude, aged thirty-five and single, was instantly killed yesterday afternoon while blasting stumps on the farm of Albert McKinney, near Pickard, west of Kempton. The body of the man was badly mangled by the heavy explosion. Mr. McKinney was working with rude at the time of the accident, they having been employed at that work the past two or three days. About 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon Rude approached a stump for the purpose of looking after a fuse. As he reached the stump the explosion followed. His right arm was broken and bruised, and there were other injuries about the body, his head and chest showing signs of the frightful concussion. McKinney was not near enough to the stump to suffer from the explosion, and Charles Alexander and Jesse Thurman , two neighbors, were approaching the men in the field at the time, but they escaped injury. Rude was born in Clinton county, being the son of Al Rude. he was a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Red Men, his membership being at Pickard. The funeral will take place some time Thursday, interment being at the Dusky cemetery, a mile and a half northwest of Pickard.
