JONES DIES FOLLOWING A LONG ILLNESS Former County Councilman Died in Hospital Today Alva Mason Jones, 56, farmer living on RFD 4 in Veale township, died this morning at 4:35 o’clock at the Daviess county hospital. Death of Mr. Jones was attributed to complications arising following an operation for appendicitis. He had been in failing health most of the summer and, for the pas three weeks had been in serious condition. He had been in the hospital five days. Native and lifelong resident of Daviess county, Mr. Jones was born February 27, 1886, being a son of Milton Crab and Susan Ann (McCafferty) Jones. He was married to Essie Fitzgerald on November 18, 1908 and she survives with three children of the union. Mr. Jones served a four-year term on the Daviess county council. Being elected in 1938 and serving until about a week ago when newly elected councilmen took over these duties. He was a member of the Aikman Creek Baptist church and was well and favorably known in the community. Surviving children are Mrs. Donna McCain of Veale, Clinton Jones of Veale, and Mrs. Evelyn Kays of Washington. There are also four grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Gertrude Carnahan of Washington, Charles E. Jones of Washington, and Mrs. Susan Garland of Washington. A brother, Orville, is deceased. Friends may pay respects at the family home, where the body was returned today after preparation at the Gill Funeral Home. Funeral services are to be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Aikman Creek Baptist church. With Rev. Ray Bartle of Jeffersonville in charge, burial in the adjoining cemetery.
