Daviess Co. IN Probate Bk. A p.50 17 May 1824 (original spelling retained) John AIKMAN, Jr. Deceased Last will and Testament, to Wit: In the name of God, Amen. I, John AIKMAN, Jr., of Davis County State of Indiana, being in a weak and low condition but in perfect mind and memory, Thanks be to God, calling to mind the mortality of my body, And knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, and first of all I commit and recommend my soul to God that gave it and my body to the dust to be burried in a decent and Christian like manner Believing that at the general resurrection of the Just we shall again be reunited by the power of Almighty God. And as touching the worldly Estate with which it has pleased God to bless me, I give and bequeath in the following manner viz. First I order and ordain that all my just debts be paid. 2nd I bequeath to my beloved wife Mary, one negro Girl now in Kentucky, which was the property of said Mary before I married her also two beds and bedding and one cow and calf. And all her wearing apprerell and two bedsteads and one bureau, one falling leaf table and the possession of the place I now live on for the Term of Three years from March next. And 3rd that all my present estate be sold by my executors and the money ariseing from the sale to be appropriated to the payment of the land I now live on and if there is sufficient money to pay it out then it shall be rented out until Thomas and John R., my two sons shall become of lawful age and then the land shall be sold and the money Equally Divided between them. And if there be not enough money to pay out the land then it shall go equally to the support of my two children. And 4th I do constitute, order and ordain James CARNAHAN and William TRAYLOR my executors to settle and transact all my Business of my Estate. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of May 1824.
