These electronic pages cannot be reproduced in any format for profit or other presentation. ========================================================================== THE AURORA BULLETIN AURORA, IN FRIDAY NOV 13, 1914 A PROMINENT CITIZEN OF AURORA ANSWERS CALL The people of this community were shocked to learn of the death of Mr.Richard Block which occurred early Tuesday morning. Mr. Block seemed to be in perfect health when he retired on Monday evening, but shortly after midnight he had an attack of heart trouble which resulted in death. He was born near Cincinnati on May 3, 1843 and came to Aurora at the age of 13 years, living the remainder of his life in this city where he has become widely known. He was married to Elmira Briggs to which union was born 10 children*, 4 boys, Fred and Will of Springfield, Ohio, Walter of Denver, Colorado, and James of this city. 2 daughters Mrs. Ella Boese of Lawrenceburg, and Mrs. Joseph Durbin. Some years after the death of his wife he was united in marriage to Mary McLaughlin. To this union was born 1 son Richard. The second wife died when the son was quite young. A few years ago he was married to Mrs. Alice Schuyler of this city with whom he has lived happily until death called him. Mr. Block was a member of the Knights of Pythias for a number of years and loved the order. During the Civil War he went at his country's call. Enlisted in the 67th Indiana Regiment where he served three years. He enjoyed meeting his old comrades and talking over the joys and sorrows of Army life. His greatest joy was taken in the society of his family and friends. He was a man of unbounded hospitality and all who visited his home received a cordial welcome. He was a kind husband and father, a true friend, and among the best of neighbors. He leaves to mourn a wife, 5 sons, 2 daughters, and 23 grandchildren. The funeral services were held at his home on Washington Avenue this (Friday) afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. E. E. Valentine. Interment at Riverview Cemetery. *Richard and Elmira had 11 children. Richard Block bought a cemetery plot with 12 graves at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, Indiana. The only markers are Elmira, Susan May and Richard Henry. Below is a complete listing of who is buried in those graves and their relationship to Richard Block.
