MUNCIE.

The county seat of Delaware county on the Bellefontaine railroad, fifty-four
miles from Indianapolis. It was incorporated as a city in 1865, and now has a
population of about 8500. It is surrounded by a rich agricultural country, and
the numerous pikes radiating from the place render it the most important point
on the road. The enterprising and business character of its citizens is plainly
developed in the many fine residences and business houses as well as its
numerous churches and good system of graded schools. It has several foundries,
furniture factories, file factory, &c., also a good representation of the trades
and professions. There are also two weekly newspapers published here, which are
well conducted and add much to the standing of the place.
