July 21, 1921: Following an illness of seven months, James Robinson soldier of the Union, died at his home near Carmen (OK) Saturday, June 25, at the age of nearly 87 years. Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon and the remains were tenderly layed to rest in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, north of Carmen. The services were conducted by Rev. F.L. Farrington and the body was borne to its last testing place by the American Legion Post of Carmen. James Robinson was born Oct. 31, 1834, in Dubois County, Ind. He served as a regular in the U.S. Army five years, received his discharge during the Civil War and then re-enlisted and served three years. Sept. 23, 1866, he was married to Rosanna McMahon in Washington Co., IN. To whom he as a devoted husband throughout the remaining fifty five years of his life. They moved to Barber Co., Kansas, in 1883 where he took a homestead. They came to Oklahoma in 1894 and he took a soldiers claim west of Carmen. In 1902 they then moved to their present home south of Carmen where he departed this life June 25, 1921, aged 86 years, seven months and 25 days. To this union eleven children were born, five having preceded him to the heavenly home. He is survived by his faithful wife and six children: William B. Robinson of Miami Texas; Elizabeth Hunbmphries (sp?) of Miami Texas, John Robinson of Longdale, Harvey Robinson of Carmen, Floyd Robinson of Carmen and Edna Devereaux of Carmen; also eighteen Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren and a host of friends. He was a loving devoted husband and father and his home and family were his first thought he was loved and respected by all who knew him. He suffered patiently for seven months, passing peacefully away in his chair. The sorrowing wife and children, through the columns of the Headlight, wish to thank the neighbors and friends and the American Legion Post for their sympathy and kind ministrations in the sad hours of their affliction.
