He was a veteran of the civil war, serving in Troop A, Seventh Indiana calvary. Besides Mrs. Cripe, there survive two other daughters, Mrs. Millie M. Light, of Elkhart and Mrs. Frank E. Ritter of near Milford; two sons, Ira F. Stamets of Los Angeles, and E. L. Stamets of Syracuse; two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Nichols of Columbia City and Mrs. Hannah Hunter of Los Angeles; eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. During his active years Mr. Stamets was a saw mill operator.
