WALTERS DIES OF HEART ATTACK THURSDAY - Arthur M. Walters, well- known druggist, died suddenly last Thursday near the Coppes hotel on South Elm street, suffering a heart attack while driving his car and on his way home to dinner, shortly after 11 o'clock. Turning from Market street on Elm street he must have suffered a heart attack. The car stopped with one wheel over the curb on the west side of the street and Henry Eastman manager of the Coppes hotel, ran to the auto and shut off the engine. A doctor was upon the scene almost at once and while Mr. Walters was still alive he passed away in a minute or two. He had been suffering with heart ailment but it was not considered serous. He is survived by his widow, four brothers, William, Chester and Warren, of Nappanee and Raymond of Mt. In the early days the small community of Locke was the home of many of the early Nappanee residents and this was true in the case of Mr. Walters. Born May 16th, 1880, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob S. Walters he came to Nappanee with his parents at an early age, the family living in the rear of the building now used as a drug store. His early education was obtained in the city schools. At the age of 18 he went west and spent about ten years wandering from place to place, working at whatever he could find to do. Coming back to Nappanee when 28 years old Mr. Walters attended the Ohio Northern university at Ada, O., studying pharmacy. Following the completion of this course he again went west and spent his time working as a druggist until 1915, when he again returned to Nappanee and with a cousin, Tom Walters, purchased the drug store from his father and since that time the store has been known as the Walters & Walters drug store. In 1922 Mrs. Sarah E. Penney came to Nappanee from Chicago to take charge of the millinery department at the Hartman Bros. store. She was in that position until 1927 when on June 12th she was united in marriage with Mr. Walters. They made their home in the Stauffer apartments on East Market street and after the home on South Main street was remodeled had made their home there since that time. They were married by Rev. Mr. Fish at Bloomingdale, Ind. Mr. Walters' father was an ardent Mason and while Arthur left Nappanee when but 18 years of age he took up lodge work while in the west and at his death was a member of the Blue lodge, the Chapter, Council, Knight Templar and Consistory and Shrine, being a 32nd degree Mason.
