WALTERS DIES SUDDENLY AT HIS HOME THANKSGIVING DAY - Warren J. (Pete) Walters died at his home about 11:30 o'clock on Thanksgiving day, of a heart attack. Several weeks ago he was taken ill and had been under the treatment of a doctor but his condition had not been considered serous. Mrs. Walters found him laying on the floor unconscious and he failed to rally. He had been down town the day before and left his place of business after midnight Thanksgiving morning. Pete, as he was so well known to his many friends, operated the Walters Recreation. He began operating the bowling alleys in 1923 on West Market street, later moved the alleys to the Reid building on North Main street. He then purchased the Grey Goose garage on East Lincoln street and remodeled this building into one of the finest recreation spots in northern Indiana. Mr. Walters was a member of the R. A. M. and F & A.M. of Nappanee. Mr. Walters was born July 3, 1897 a son of Jacob S. and Etta Burkholder Walters in Nappanee. On Dec. 25, 1923, he was united in marriage to Chloe Stillson, who survives, along with three daughters, Mrs. Harry Tobias, of Persall, Texas, Mary Helen and Freida, at home. Two brothers, William J. of Nappanee and Charles R., of Mt. Clemens, Mich, three sisters, Mrs. Maude Stump, Nappanee; Mrs. Clare Grise, Chicago and Mrs. Florence Schoenfeld, Mishawaka, and one granddaughter also survives. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Wright Funeral Home, Rev. J. Milton Bowman of the First Brethren church officiating and burial was in the Bremen cemetery, under the direction of Wright & Son.
