NEW ALBANY.

The capital of Floyd county, on the Ohio river three miles below Louisville, at
the foot of the falls, and at the terminus of the Louisville, New Albany &
Chicago, and the Jeffersonville, Madison & Indianapolis railroads. It contains a
population of about 20,000, has two rolling mills, a number of extensive
foundries and machine shops, a stove foundry, a large woolen mill, and other
manufacturing establishments, which, with the steamboat building done here,
furnish employment for a large number of men, and add greatly to the prosperity
of the place. It has two daily papers, and is making a rapid and substantial
advance in wealth and population.
