W. Beckwith (1881) Benton Cade, farmer, Covington, was born in Van Buren township, this county, in 1840, and is the son of David and Mary A. (Reed) Cade. He is a native of Maryland and she of Kentucky. They were among the very first of Fountain county's pioneers, as their settlement in the county dates back nearly to 1820. They located on the old Crawfordsville and State road, in Cain township. Mr. Benton Cade was raised a fanner; but as he grew to manhood he spent much time in travel, and finally settled down in 1862, and married Miss Margaret Bodine, daughter of William and Rebecca Bodine, who were natives of Virginia. They, too, were among the early pioneers of Fountain county, and their first location was in Wabash township. Mr. and Mrs. Cade have a family of three children: Odelia, Oka and Sampson R.
