W. Beckwith (1881) A. Lemp, jeweler, Covington, who has by his own efforts fought his way to a good standing among the most successful of Covington's merchants, and the oldest dealer in the line of jewelry in the city, is a native of Alexandria, Hamilton county, Ohio. He came to Fountain county with his people in 1847, his father being a teacher of music. He first began at clerking and then learned the trade of a stone-cutter, which he also gave up, and in 1857 engaged in his present line of business. In June, 1879, he became the agent for the American Express Company, and in 1880 he also became agent for a full line of Madam Demorest's patterns. Mr. Lemp is a member of Covington Lodge, No. 21, I. O. O. F., and has passed all the chairs of the order. His political views are democratic. He has never held any office farther than being a member of the city council.
