Author: H. W. Beckwith (1881)

   J. B. Van Dorn, farmer, Covington, was born in Washington county,
Pennsylvania, May 4, 1833, and is the son of Hezekiah and Hester Van Dorn, who
were natives of Pennsylvania. The father was born March 26, 1790, and the mother
about 1792; she died in this county about 1870. The father resides with his son,
Mr. Van Dorn. They came to Fountain county in 1836, and settled in Wabash
township. Mr. Van Dorn, the subject of this sketch, has been a resident of the
county since he came to it with his parents. In 1858 he married Miss Elizabeth
Jones, daughter of Elihu Jones, aud by this union they have four children:
Morris L., Levi W., Manford C. and Ora W.
