Silver Island is a relatively small cemetery. It is backed by the Wabash River, and is fronted by farmland. There is a home to the left of the cemetery, about 75-100 yards away and I don't know if the family who owns the home also owns the cemetery land. The cemetery is however, completely fenced in with an iron fence, and appeared to be well cared for as of November 2006 when I was last there taking photos. The white sign at the entrance of the cemetery says, "ALL WINTER GROUND DECORATIONS TO BE REMOVED BY APRIL 1ST, FOR SPRING CLEAN-UP. THANK YOU! SILVER ISLAND CEMETERY TRUSTEES." There is also a sign welded into the front gate that says, "SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF OUR FIRST SETTLERS." To get to Silver Island Cemetery, from Indiana State Road 63(IN63), go to Indiana State Road 234 (IN234), turn EAST. Bear left at SILVER ISLAND ROAD. The cemetery is ahead about 1.4 miles. GPS Coordinates are : 39.970000, -87.423000 Transcription Legend/Key: { = shared gravestone " ___" = epitaph (quote, verse or additional writing on stone) *___* = type of symbol on stone ( __ ) = Contributor's comments _____ = Unable to read WANN, Mary A., wife of J.H.
