Brown Sixty-third Indiana, Company H. Brown, Jeremiah M., Residence: Covington; Mustered in August 20, 1862; Killed at Lost Mountain, June 16, '64. - Indiana Adjutant General Report The name J. M. Brin, on the original grave marker, is not listed in CWSS. There are Brin's in CWSS, but none in regiments that served in the Kennesaw area. In August 2008, the VA received sufficient proof of the correct name and replaced the grave marker. In original Book of Interments (handwritten): Brin, J. M., 68th Ind, June 17, 1864, H (342) 8702, Originally buried at Kennesaw Mt. Orig. Bur. in a group of 9 graves in a hospital graveyard 3.5 miles west of Pine Mt. - David M. Long, J.M. Brown, J.Q.A. McNutt, Wm Boulds, Unknown, Isaac Hicks, Unknown Co B 100 OVI, Geo. W. Hempstead, Unknown. Three graves together (H-8702, H-8703, H-8704) were identified in the Original Book of Interments as those of men of the 68th Indiana. However, the 68th IND was not in the vicinity of Gilgal Church in June of 1864. The men's names were also incorrect: Brin is Brown, Nutt is McNutt, W. B. is William Boulds. Triangulating different sources puts these men in the 63rd Indiana which did lose 5 men killed and 11 wounded during the Battle of Gilgal Church according to the OR. Five buried at MNC: Jeremiah M. Brin/Brown (H8702), John Q A Nutt/McNutt (H8703), William Boulds (H8704), James Penner (H8748), John P. Jack (H8507). The 3 men buried near each other were re-interred from a field hospital graveyard located 3.5 miles west of Pine Mt. J Jack is buried in H8507 not far away from the other 63rd IND soldiers but he was originally buried where he fell near Burnt Hickory Rd. H 8702 is located between: David Long, 100th Ohio, H 8701 JQA (Mc)Nutt, 63rd Ind Co D, H 8703 Both of whom were in the 23d Army Corps, 3d Division.
