Smith Sam C. SMITH, 85, Rt. 1, Akron, died at 1:55 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Hospital, where he had been admitted Saturday. He was born Feb. 11, 1906 in Clay County, Tenn., to Samuel E. and Louvernia B. BOLES SMITH. On Sept. 5, 1927 in Crown Point he married Hazel M. SUTTON, who died June 7, 1977. He retired from farming and from McMahan-O’Connor Construction Company as a construction worker. Surviving are three daughters, Betty LITTLE, Mrs. Roy (Violet) FISHER, and Mrs. Earl (Alice) GAERTE, all of Rochester; two sons, Richard L. [SMITH], Rochester, and Allen R. [SMITH], Akron; eleven grandchildren, including Sandra NESS, Tippecanoe; fourteen great-grandchildren, and a half- brother, Frank BROWN, Portage. Preceding in death were two half-sisters, a half-brother and a grandson, Jamie NESS. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor James MALBONE officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Culver. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund.
