Row 3 Additional Comments: Monday, March 21, 1966 Reece A. Oliver Reece A. OLIVER, 74, R.R. 2, Akron, once head of American guerrillas in the Philippine Islands during World War II, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday at his home following a coronary attack. Although he had been ill five years, his death was unexpected. Born Aug. 1, 1891 in Akron, he had spent his lifetime in Akron except for 34 years in the Philippine Islands. He was the son of Marshall and Rebecca STICKLER OLIVER. He was married Aug. 19, 1934 in Davio City, Philippine Islands, to Flora CARBONELL, who survives. A retired school teacher, he was superintendent of schools in several provinces in the Philippines. He was a member of the Akron Masonic Lodge 659. He was a retired major of the U. S. Army and during World War II he was chief of staff in command over the American Guerrillas. Surviving with the wife are a daughter, Mrs. Renea (Rebecca) TORRES, New York City; three sons, Robert [OLIVER], Columbus; Cpl. James [OLIVER[, with the U.S. Air Force in California, and Winston [OLIVER], Akron; and four grandchildren. A sister and three brothers preceded in death. Last rites will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheetz funeral home with the Rev. Claude FAWNS officiating. Burial will be in the Akron cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Masonic services will be at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that remembrances other than flowers be in the form of contributions to charity.
