Row 3 Additional Comments: Saturday, March 31, 1956 Mr. and Mrs. Norman Kepler and Carl Lee Sebring Three persons died Saturday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock and a fourth is in Woodlawn hospital in "fair" condition this morning as the result of a two-car head-on crash about three miles south of Rochester on State Road 25. Killed instantly in the crash were Mr. and Mrs. Norman KEPLAR, Logansport, and Carl Lee SEBRING, 24, Silver Lake, formerly of Rochester. The Keplers' two- year-old daughter, Ann Lind [KEPLAR], suffered a broken left leg and severe head lacerations, cuts and bruises. She is in Woodlawn hospital. Sheriff Laurence NORRIS, who investigated along with Deputy Dick DICKSON and State Troopers Wayne JORDAN and Milford BUCK, said the two cars were traveling at an estimated 60 miles per hour when they met head-on. Death was attributed to broken necks, crushed chests and internal injuries in the case of each of the three victims. Deputy Dickson reported that the front of both cars almost disintegrated under the impact of the crash. None of the bodies was thrown clear of the wreckage. Sheriff Norris surmised that Sebring, driving a 1951 Lincoln, swerved into the path of Keplar's southbound 1953 Buick. An unidentified witness told the Fulton county officer that he had followed the Sebring car from Metea northward and that it had been "swerving all over the road, onto the berm and traveling in both lanes." Norris reported finding several empty beer cans in the Sebring car plus several unopened cans. The Keplars were returning to their Logansport home after a visit in South Bend. A daughter, Sue Ellen [KEPLAR], 13, did not accompany her parents on the South Bend trip. A son, Tom [KEPLAR], is in the Navy, stationed at Jacksonville, Fla. Mrs. Keplar, 48, was employed as a nurse at Logansport Memorial hospital and was a member of the Eastern Star and E.U.B. church. She was born in North Dakota, daughter of Otto and Clara PLANK HINKLE, Twelve Mile. Survivors, besides the three children, are the parents; four sisters, Mrs. Leona PATTERSON, Walton; Mrs. Geneva GRIEST, Twelve Mile; Mrs. Donna HARVEY, Indianapolis; and Mrs. Nancy KUNKLE, Walton; and four brothers, Harold and Ray [HINKLE], Twelve Mile; Keith [HINKLE], in the Army at Ft. Eustis, Va., and Everett [HINKLE], Logansport. Keplar, 45, was born in Chicago, the son of John and Gertrude TURNPAUGH KEPLAR. He was employed by the Logansport Machine company and belonged to the Tipton Lodge No. 53, F. and A.M. He also was a member of the Logansort E.U.B. church. His three children; his parents; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary SCHRADER, Logansport, and Mrs. Jane FEALLOCK, Niles, Mich., survive. The bodies are at the Fisher funeral home, Logansport. Sebring had been employed as a sorting inspector for R.B.M. company in Logansport and had been rooming in that city for the past few months. He was enroute to the home of his mother, Mrs. Irvin PARKER, Silver Lake, at the time of the crash. He was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Akron, son of James and Minnie SEBRING. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Church of the Brethren in Akron. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Minnie SEBRING PARKER, and his father, Irvin PARKER, both of Silver Lake, and a sister, Mrs. Charles SMITH, Akron. Funeral services for Sebring were held at 2 p.m. today at the Akron Church of God with the Revs. Daniel L. SLAYBAUGH and Ralph MacFADDEN in charge. Burial will be in the Akron I.O.O.F. cemetery.
