CHARLES WESLEY WHEELER Gibson County, Indiana Father: John Wheeler Mother: uncertain Charles Wesley Wheeler was a Civil War Veteran of the Fifty-eighth Infantry Regiment, Company K. He mustered out as a Sgt., July 25, 1865. A copy of his obituary was obtained from the Princeton Library and is as follows: CHARLES WESLY WHEELER "Charles W. Wheeler, aged 83, veteran of the Civil war and of of the best known residents of this county, died at his home, 920 west Broadway at 5 0'clock Saturday afternoon after a lingering illness. "On account of the illness of the wife, Mrs. Mary A. (Karnes) Wheeler, only a short funeral service will be held at the home at 1:15 o'clock tomorrow afternoon with a service at 2 o'clock at the First Methodist church. The service will be conducted by Rev. J. E. Murr, pastor. Archer Post, G. A. R., will attend in a body and will give the post's ritual. Burial will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. "Charles W. Wheeler was born January 14, 1841, in Gibson County, in which he has lived all his life. He served in the Civil war for three years and eight months, as a member of Co. K, 58th Indiana regiment, being a sergeant of his company. "He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Karnes, March 13, 1867. To this union were born nine children, eight of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. Sam Myers, of Vincennes; W. A. Wheeler, Princeton; Isaac Wheeler, East St. Louis, Ill.; Floyd Wheeler, Evansville; Mrs. David Phillips, Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Claude Speer, Evansville; David B. Wheeler, Princeton, and Mrs. Nellie Brazelton, Princeton. A son, Wesley Wheeler, is deceased. "Mr. Wheeler, was identified with the city of Princeton as a member of the city council for a number of years. "He was a member of the General Baptist church at Enon. "Charles Wheeler was congenial, a good neighbor and a good friend, one to be depended on at all times. Because of these qualities he will be sadly missed in his home circle and among his associates, especially his comrades of the G. A.
