Gibson County Indiana OBITUARY, HENRY GIBSON WHEELER DIED FEBRUARY 14, 1895 [Father: William H. Wheeler] [Mother: Sarah Ann Neill] [Grandparents: Payton Wheeler and Catharine Key] [Great Grandparents: James and Elizabeth Welch Wheeler] Thursday morning, about 8 o'clock, Henry Wheeler, an old and respected citi- zen, departed this life, after a sickness of several weeks with typhoid fever, aged nearly 56 years. His life was spent in this county, being mainly engaged in farming, though at one time he was engaged in the sawmill business. In 1860 he was married to Miss Mary B. McClure, who with one son--Lon, now is business in Hazleton-- survives him. At the time of his death Mr. Wheeler was and had been for many years a member of Enon G.B. Church. He was a man of positive character who made warm friends and will be long and sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. The funeral was held Sat- urday morning, interment being in Odd Fellows Cemetery. After many days suffering with ty- phoid fever, all that was mortal of Henry G. Wheeler, at 7:40 o'clock this morning, ceased to be and his soul took its flight to God, who gave it. He had been quite low for many days and the family and friends had hoped for the best but the weary body could not withstand the ravages of the dread disease. Mr. Wheeler was born April 26, 1839. In 1860 he was united in marriage to Mary B. McClure and of this union two children, a son and daughter were born. The daughter, Alma, was called home when just budding young womanhood; the son, Lon, a prominent young businessman of Hazleton, together with the wife and mother, still surviving. Mr. Wheeler was a member of the Enon General Baptist church, having joined that church many years ago. He was a man of excellent business qualifications and possessed of an indomitable will. While possessed of some peculiar traits of character--as who is not--he was a man of many generous impulses, a good neighbor and a kind and indulgent husband and fa- ther. The stricken mother and son have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement and by none is sympa- thy more sincerely extended than by the NEWS. The funeral will take place from the residence on West State Street Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by : Roy Wheeler (© 1997 Roy Wheeler ) USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages cannot be reproduced in any format for profit or other presentation.
