Mil. home count of Grant, State of Indiana; and that he is the identical person who was enrolled to Bunker Hill, Illinoise under the name of John Delany, on the ____ day of August, 1861, as a private, in I. Co. 59th Illinoise & Private, Ram fleet Miss. Marine Reg. in the service of the United States, in the Civil War war, and ws honorably discharged at Vicksburg. Miss., on the _____ day of July, 1863. That he also served ______. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height, 5 feet 7 inches; complexion, dark; color of eyes, dark; color of hair; dark; that his occupation was printer; that he was born 10th day of April, 1843. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: St. Louis, MO, Louisville KY. Jan 1908 [can't read word] St. Louis to Louisville KY. Commissioner of Pensions Sir, In filling out your [can't read word] pertaining to my services on the 10 inst I find upon reflection that I made an error in the time of my enlistment it should have been about the 10 of August 1861 and as near as I can give memory I was discharged about July 1863. Please correct the date on my statement as I do not want any discrepancies in my record. Very Respectfully John Delaney On this 18th Day of Oct 1912 John Delaney, being duly sworn according to law makes the following statements. He was born on the 10th day of April 1843 at Grafton Ill. That there was a record at one time but was accidently distroyed some forty years ago. The records of the Baptism was destroyed by fire in 1855. He sent statement of the facts in April 1908 which should be on file at the Pension department. He enlisted in Aug. 1861. His age at that time was 18 years. His parents told him and he saw his record in the Bible and his age is .. April 10, 1843. signed John Delaney. Subscribed and Sworn to before me this 18th Day of Oct 1912, Joseph A. Apr. 12 1913 - Know all men by these Pesents: That the undersigned, being duly sworn, deposes and says: that he is the identical John Delaney who served in I Co. 9th MO Inf and later in Co. I 59th ILL and on the Ram [Monarch?] for the rest of his time, that his P.O. address is Ward 4 Barrack No. 11 Nat. Mil. Home Grant County Ind., that he is the rightful owner of Pen. ctf. No 1147978, that he was 70 years of age April 10th 1913 and that he hereby makes claim to the due increase of pension as allowed by Law based upin his age and the length of service as it may appear on teh records of the War Department. signed John Delaney. My Dear Sir: I wish you woulsd kindley advise me with reference to the status of the pension claim of Mr. John Delaney, National Military Home, Indiana, late of Co. I, 59th ILL. Vol. Inf. No 1147978, under the Act of May 11, 1912, which, I am advised, was filed in April 1913. Thanking you, I am, Respectfully, George W. Rauch 11th Dist. Indiana - Committe on Appropriations. On this 19th day of Feb. 1914 personally appeared John Delaney whose P.O. address is National Military Home IND. being duly sworn make the following Statement. Sometime the last of Aug. 1861 was sworn in to the U.S. Service at St. Louis MO in Company I, 9th MO Inf. after teh Battle of Peasridge some time in March 1862. The whole Regiment was changed to the 59th Ill in the same Company. I. 59th ILL Inft. instead of I. 9th MO Ift. The whole Reg. was changed from 9th MO Inft to 59 ILL Ift. John C. Kelton Col. Charles Fredericks Lt. Co. In 1850 he lived at Grafton ILL. The County was a large County and was cut up the County now is Jearsey [sic] I think about that time it was Green County. In 1860 he lived in Alton ILL don't know street or number his fathers name was William Delaney. Mothers name was Margaret Delaney. signed John Delaney. Sibscribed and sworn to befroe me this 19th day of Feb. 1914, Joseph A. Herman. March 20, 1914 - The Adjutant General's Office: Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions. The records show that the 59th Illinois Infantry was organized at Bunker Hill, Illinois, in the month of August, 1861, and that it marched thence to St. Louis Arsenal. This organization was known as the 9th Missouri Infantry prior to February 12, 1862. The records show that John Delaney, private, Co. I, joined for duty and was enrolled August 28, 1861. Act of May 11, 1912: It is hereby certified that in conformity with the laws of the United States John Delaney who was a Private, Co. I, 59th "Regiment, Illinois Infantry and Ram Fleet, Mississippi Marine Brigade. is entitled to a pension at the rate of Twenty-one and one-half dollars per month from April 10, 1913 and Twenty-seven dollars per month from April 10, 1918 - dated Eleventh day of April 1914 Cave Hill National Cemetery, Louisville, KY, Dec. 3, 1914 - The remains of John Delaney, who died Dec. 3, 1914 in Louisville, KY, and entered in grave No. 4644 Section E., Charles C. Market Street, Louisville, KY, June 4 - 1915 Department of the Interior Bureau of Pension Gentleman on Dec. 4 - 1914 I burried Mr. John Delaney and not receiving any settlement I thought I would write to find out what is the delay. Please let me hear from you in regard to this matter. Respectfully, Thomas Keenan Application for Reimbursement: State of Kentucky County of Jefferson On this 3rd day of September, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and fifteen personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State afresaid, Thomas Keenan, aged 61 years, a resident of Louisville, County of Jefferson, State of Kentucky, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain reimbursement from the accrued pension for expenses paid (or obligation incurred) in the last sickness and burial of John Delaney, who was a pensioner of the United States by certificate No. 1,147,978, on account of the service of John Delaney in I 59 Ill Inf. ... 1. What was the full name of the deceased pensioner? John Delaney 2. In waht capacity was decedent pensioned? Invalid Questions 3-5 were answered: Not required. 6. Were any sick or death benefits paid on pensioner's account? None 7. Was there insurance (life, accident, or health) in force on life of pensioner at time of death? No. 8-12 not answered. 13. Is there an executor or administrator, or will application be made for appointment of any person as administrator? There is no administrator or executor. No. 14. Did the deceased pensioner leave any money, real estate, or personal property? No 15-17 n/a 18. Did pensioner leave an unindorsed persion check?
